Recent projects

I've recently completed two major projects:

  • The Devil's Violin – a three-piece storytelling and music company featuring storyteller Daniel Morden, violinist Oliver Wilson-Dickson and myself on cello. The company ran from 2006 to 2023 and created six shows.  More about the Devil's Violin...

  • A Year in a Field – I composed and performed the soundtrack for this award-winning film, released in 2023.  More...

The Devil's Violin

Storytelling and music company

“A scintillating combination of music, sound and story” The Times

The Devil's Violin trademark was a unique and sophisticated blend of music, spoken word, imagery, metaphor, song, rhythm, lighting and movement. It was ‘cinema of the mind’ and reimagined ancient storytelling techniques for a contemporary adult audience.

Between 2006 and 2023, Daniel Morden (story), Oliver Wilson-Dickson (violin) and I created 6 shows: The Devil’s Violin, The Singing Bones, A Love Like Salt, The Forbidden Door, STOLEN and The Beast in Me. We gave 375 performances to 29,000 people at theatres, festivals and rural venues across the UK and abroad. We created two podcast series, which reached 11500 people worldwide.

All projects were possible thanks to funding from Arts Council England, Arts Council of Wales and The PRS Foundation.

A Year in a Field

Film soundtrack

A quiet film by Christopher Morris, music by Sarah Moody.

Produced by Bosena, distributed by Anti-Worlds

Nominated for Best First Feature, Sheffield DocFest 2023

Winner of the 9th International Grand Jury Award at the InScience Film Festival in Nijmegen.

A Year in a Field is the story of one Cornish field told over one climatic year. Beginning on Winter Solstice 2020, with his camera and tripod, BAFTA winning documentary filmmaker Christopher Morris began filming each day in a field near his home.

“I’ve never glued my hand to a road, or strapped myself to a tree and I’ve never been on a climate protest march but once in a lifetime natural disasters are happening more than once in my lifetime and I’ve got to do something ...”

A quiet, unnoticed, one-man vigil, a direct action of stillness.

“Rich, contemplative approach to the challenges facing humanity. The documentary invites the audience to take a less human-centered perspective, taking the viewer into the slow and steady pace of a non-living entity – with humor, panache and beautiful music.” InScience Film Festival

"A sensitive music score." Mansel Stimpson, Film Review Daily
