My teaching background

Throughout my career I’ve taught cello to children and adults on a one-to-one basis. I’ve run choirs and facilitated music workshops in schools and community settings, for community theatre and with people with learning difficulties.

I co-founded Visible Thinking – a company that delivered Youth Music-funded, multi-arts projects for 10 years – and was schools' facilitator on an EU-funded project, MIROR (SONY France), to investigate new music software for children.

My teaching practice

Through 30 years of playing cello & composing for theatre, dance, storytelling & film,  I offer a uniquely creative approach to my teaching which places the pupil at the heart of their learning journey. There are three strands to my teaching:

Cello teaching

  • a unique and creative approach to playing the cello for beginners to grade 8. Develop a solid cello technique through improvisation, folk, jazz & world music. Explore cello as a bass & rhythm instrument. More about my cello teaching ...

Jamming for the Terrified

Music workshops

  • fun and creative music workshops for all ages which supports participants to explore their musical potential.  More about my workshops ...

“Sarah has a rare combination of exceptional musicianship, integrity and inventiveness; woven together with a deep-rooted conviction in the value of creativity and culture for all … her facilitation is kind, open and non-judgemental.”
